Review: Ruff's migration tour (April 2016)

Another month and another weekend tour! It was individual tour for very demanding client ;)

This time, once again, we visited Biebrza National Park.
Camuflated hare
Everything started on friday evening. After short drive from the city we begun our wildlife search. Despite the fact that it was after midnight we had our eyes wide open. First we had some amphibias – common toads, yellow-bellied toads, and the most beautiful spadefoot's! These were just waiting for us in the middle of the road. We moved them gently to the side to provide them safeness. Later during that part of the trip we had marten (probably pine marten) and racoon dog – twice, two individuals that were seen from very close. Few more red deers, and roe deers made the trip more interesting. Unluckily owls were very silent that night :( Anyway quite a good beginning as for few hours.

Massive migration
After 4 hours of sleep we started next day! First we had a great breakfast and than we begun our drive down the valley. It was really good day for wildlife observation! We had perfect opportunities to see a wide wariety of species – elks, roe deers, red deers, and hares if we think about mammals, and lots of birds for ex.: white storks (dozens), white egrets, marsh harriers, white-tailed eagles (few), ruffs (thousands), golden plovers (thousands), geese (hundreds of greylags and bean geese),
Spring ruff's
ducks (hundreds of shovelers, pintails, widgeons, mallards, teals etc.), swans (mute and whooper swans), curlews, dozens of cranes, skylarks, great grey shrikes and many many others. All of that in a beautiful landscapes of Biebrza National Park. We were trying to find bluethorat and penduline tits, but unfortunatelly we didn't see any. After a short lunch we started our way back to hotel.

Night badger
In the evening we had additional walk just after sunset to a special place, where we had a very close meeting with a beaver (but it was quite shy – we heard it having a meal, and saw it for a moment), and with a beautiful badger! Maybe 5 meters distance and very good light so we could see all details of that cute animal! On our way back we had pair of tawny owls hooting. Quite a good ending of a day.

On the sunday morning we started again before breakfast. We had a slow drive to a trail with an observing tower, and back. We wanted to see an elk from very close. Our wishes came true, and we had 6-7 elks standing just few meters from us. One pair was special, as we saw a mother with her quite old (maybe 10months) scion. Soon (in may) new elks-child will be born.

Weed Buting
After breakfast another chances for wildlife ! So another drive to places where many things could happen. Short visit in Narew National Park gave us opportunity to see more cranes, marsh harriers, white egrets, ruffs, or weed buntings. After short walk we had to drive back to Warsaw as we wanted to be at the airport on time.
